Air India Story

We use to hate servicing Air India AC as the smelled horrible in the cabin, we were supplied with Gas Masks to wear, any way, this Captain was his last flight before retireing, they used the old smokey Rolls Royce engines and very noisy, he flogged the B707 down runway 21 and hauled it into the air at about 1000 ft did a sharp left turn and buzzed the Tower on full power, over the terminal, till he climbed away, the then FAA wasnt able to punish him for breaking FAA regulations, as he didnt give a stuff an being his last flight, but the Airline copped a heafty fine.



Another Air India Incident was the airport was almost fogged in, but Air India were determined to try to land on Runway 24, breaking through the fog at about 500 ft or maybe little more, realised they had lined up with Brealy Ave, with full power back on climed out over the Terminal with ATC yelling abort, the noise was horrific and garrenteed the terminal was emptied in 30 seconds. the IA AC was then diverted to Meekatharra, fog lifted about 9am. ( I recon he just missed the then tarmac light poles.)

Another Incodent one day with a Qantas B747 did a real heavy landing on runway 21, wasn't till she taxied halfway down J taxiway that 5 tyres burst almost simultainsly, had to leave it there until another Jumbo from Sydney could bring new wheels/tyres, as they wont fit into the hold of a B707. it was there for almost 48 hrs on the taxiway.
