Wollongong police had to call for reinforcements when neighbours bombarded them with bottles and a can of paint as they tried to arrest a man facing multiple charges.
Police say the man, armed with a knife, ran off when officers spotted him in Wegit Way, in the southern suburb of Warrawong, about 6.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday, police said.
He ran into a backyard and allegedly spat at officers, who used capsicum spray to subdue him.
