Help!!!!!!! Please? Messenger problem....

Post by Chicky »

Hi all me again

I've got the internet on here at the hotel I'm staying at, but my MSN doesn't want to work. At home I'm usually on a wireless connection (I have disabled it on my laptop) and here I am having to use an ethernet cable.

When I try and sign in, I am getting the error code as per below....
We were unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger at this time. Please try again later.

Error code: 80048820
Extended error code: 80048439
I have Googled the error codes, and done a few things like re-registering the dll files... Now I'm getting the same suggestions for each hit I visit.

Any tips from our trusty WARSUG IT legends? :D

My guess would be a firewall problem...

Thanks Ludi. That's what I was thinking too. So it would have to be the hotel's firewall, not mine as I've never had an issue running it until now :?

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regsvr32 softpub.dll and then click OK.
Restart MSN Messenger.
Then turn off your computer and turn it back on!!!

And if it just won't work no matter what you try, then WebMessenger might get you out of a fix ...

Instead of web messenger, you could use Trillian, which is a program which works with MSN messenger, AOL, Yahoo etc.

Yep I'm a big fan of Trillian myself :)

But Web Messenger's good for those times when the PC isn't yours, or you can't install extra stuff for whatever reason.
