Boxes on light poles - freeway and forrest highway

Post by PeteRipp »

Hi.
Just wondering if anyone knows what the small white boxes are on the freeway and Forrest Highway light poles are.
The boxes are maybe 5m agl and about 120x120x120mm.
The tilt of the box seems to be important. I cant see any lens or window on them.
They seem to be around intersections so my guess is a movement sensor of some kind.
Anyone know?
Over.

Couple of different ones I'm thinking of that you might be talking about.

At that height at intersections they are usually sensors for vehicle or pedestrian movements. How or what they do though I'm not sure.

Some high up on light poles on highways I believe are part of traffic monitoring and counting, as well as data transmission up through the network of monitors.
