This seems to have sparked some interest in panoramic pictures and their construction. So rather than hijack that topic please feel free to continue the panoramic picture discussion here.
To kick things off, on our recent holiday to Sydney i took the following 2 pictures from the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon Lookout. I used a Canon Powershot A200 to take the individual pictures (which has a panoramic assist mode built in), and then used the Canon software PhotoStitch to assemble them.

Nearly 180 degrees, you can see the wall in both the bottom left corner and right side.

Sydney Harbour looking north west over the Sydney Harbour Bridge
The opposite bridge pylon is on the left (to the west) and Milson's Point to the north is on the right.
