Malaga trucks

Post by CobCob »

Was out walking the dog this arvo and came across Malaga doing some training on the decontamination unit. Not sure what this is but took a couple of photos. Also got one of the Pump,Lt and MT.

Wow, never seen one of those "decontamination" trucks before.

Interesting, good pics.

And finally! It appears Malaga have obtained a half decent 2.4!

It's called the POD carrier... the box is exchangeable for different types, dependant on the situation. Some PODS may contain gear for USAR, Hazmat, communications etc.

Ahh so that's how those things get around. I have seen a few of them sitting in the training centre and have always wondered how they were transported to incidents...
It says 'PCAR 1' as the ID, is it's call sign Personnel Carrier or is that the little bus that FESA has? as I have never heard POD Carrier on the radio before.

Why would it be Personnel Carrier?? It's not a personnel carrier?

The POD carrier is based @ Malaga station.

The Personnel Carrier (aka bus) has the callsign prefix PC, not PCAR.

"P"OD "CAR"rier I think the fleet abbreviation stands for. I think on the Radio it usually adopts the callsign of the POD it carries. When they still had the Foam POD and were using the viehicle for driver training on schools, I used to here Foam Carrier, or maybe Foam Transporter, and Hose Layer or Hose Carier. This was several years ago, so a bit foggy. I posted various images of this vehicle on ozfire.org, most recenty in the last couple of years of it in station at Malaga, and at a combined drill at Perth FS. There you can see some of the gear in the DeCon POD - particularly the large DeCon tents.

By the way - POD stands for Platform on Demand in most Emergency Services.

"ROLE: To provide the fire and Emergency Services Authority with the ability to deliver specialised equipment to an incident" http://www.fesa.wa.gov.au

The POD loading system is the same as the trucks that pick up those long waste bins you see out the back of shopping centres. this allows it to change the pod quickly. have seen large reels of hose, De-Com units and heard rumors of a unit that contains a BA air compressor

Thanks for the comments guys. I have been viewing the site for a while but only just registered. Would have liked to have taken a few more photos but the firefighters looked busy so didnt want to get in the way. What sort of equipment do they carry in the POD.
Thanks

The Foam POD and Hose Layer POD I was told were disposed of. I've seen a USAR POD, and a few others... look here for the drill at Perth I think I referred to earlier...

There are 2 USAR pods at Forrestfield
These carry specialist equipment such as concrete cutting gear, hydraulics, some of those brilliant Lunar Lights, shoring materials, and an amazing array of heavy duty battery powered tools.

The Pod in the pic is the mass decon pod and was bought for CBR incidents mainly, not long after 9/11

Not long after 9/11? I'd like to see some info on that. The decon trailers and mini-containers were around for a long time before the Decon POD, and they were at least a year or so later than 9/11 I think.

It should be 11/9 as we're not American. 9/11 is my birthday in November.
