you'll notice that this is one of the new V8's that was being talked about in the FESA forum, and it's also got one of the new radios for those that haven't yet seen them.

Wahoo CD player. Finally! (its the most important part of the appliance!).

I expect SET01 would also be used as a standby appliance when one of the others is in for service.

My reasoning is that the Mazdas are still out there... members from those Brigades who attend Forrestfield have, more than likely, not trained on anything else. (I know of at least three Brigades still with Mazdas, and another that changed to another appliance only in July.)

No point teaching someone on something they haven't seen before and won't be using possibly for some time. Once the phase-out of Mazdas has occurred then remove them. (I have also heard that some Brigades have not received their new appliances as there has not been any to provide. If that's the case, then Forrestfield should wait until there are some available.)

Narrogin still has a Mazda, joined the vfrs service here today. They told me they're getting a scania to replace this old unit, but they're not sure where it's going to fit.

Yep - they're pulling your leg. More than likely they'll get a Country Pumper.
