Tom, the snorkels on the Rodeos would generally point to the fact that the engines are diesel rather than petrol (unleaded). As diesels have different electrical requirements they can operate underwater, but need a guaranteed air intake supply. This enebles vehicles to cross through flooded rivers/creeks etc. This is one of the reasons diesel 4WDs are more poular in the bush.
Markmy, the officer i spoke to said that the old Command Post truck had been passed around from station to station until finally ending up with them at South Hedland. He said it was pretty much stripped out and not much more than a shell.

WOW! Those pics brought back some memories for me... an ex-Hedlander of 16 years! I remember being parked right where that Camry was when I went for my driving test many moons ago

Of course, I passed first time

I see the obligatory Hedland dust adds a sense of 'bush' to the WAPol vehicles hehe!
Thanks, auntys_eyes!

Unfortunatly I did not pass my first driving test, perhaps I should have gone to Port Hedland to do the test. I do I have a valid reason for failing tho unfortunatly for me I was diagnosed with diabetes the next day. They are great pics tho thanks for sharing them with us.

Heading back up to Hedland on Thursday for another 4 days (the ABC will be broadcasting the WAFL game from South Hedland on Saturday arvo). Will take my camera and try and get some more pics of the Port/South Hedland fleet.
