Hey all,

Just took some snaps of the new Ellenbrook police station that under construction. Its due for completion early next year and will house 18 officers. It also comes with a nice price tag of 2.8 million dollars. The areas it will police include:

* Belhus
* Bullsbrook
* Ellenbrook (including Morgan Fields and Vale estates) Henley Brook
* Lexia
* The Vines
* Upper Swan
* Walyunga National Park
* Whiteman (including Whiteman Park)
* Brigadoon
* Baskerville
* Millendon

The station will significantly reduce police response time in the area and free up some resources from midland station.

Good to see they're trying to give officers decent stations these days. Time to bring the older ones up to scratch! :-)

The pics may look big on here, but up-close its really not all that big. If $2.8m buys you a station that size, then they need to atleast double that amount. I mean Ellenbrook is going to end up with a population of 50,000+. The Govt really should plan for the future, not just act when things have gotten so bad that its drawing public critisism. Ridiculous.

The new Merredin fire station was slated to be around $860k but the accepted plan (which could become a standard design) is slated at being $1.3M.

2 engine bays, 2 changerooms, training area, storage, office, shower, 3 dunnies (1 disabled), kitchen and a mezzanine level.

That is handy to know, considering some 4 appliance brigades get nothing more than $100k to build a station..

That's probably because it's a VBFS brigade and the finances are being run by stingy b@st@rds in your local government. I know that Merredin kept it quiet for a while while they dealt with the Shire (painful!) and then with some dumb-@rses in FESA. Fortunately with the new CEO heads have rolled and new people are in place.

You need to campaign long and LOUD when your next local government elections - get people in Council who will listen... and act.

Unfortunately not the case at all.. Local Govt fought tooth-and-nail.. it was FESA that wouldnt cough up any more than $100k to build a station.

FESA has a long way to go as far as equality is concerned.. anyways, this is probably in the wrong thread!
