SET 6 years on

Post by Matt. »

Excuse my ignorance and starting a thread for a single image however I feel this deserves it!

After coming to Perth for about 6 years before moving here and chasing this one up almost every time a chance drive by gets me this.

Yeah, still used as a spare. I quite often see it sitting inside Murdoch FS when driving past. Its good to see that they still keep these specialised vehicles because you never know! O'conner workshop does have some interesting stuff hanging around there.

Was this the truck that used to be BACU Breathing Apparutus Comand Unit?

BACU was an Acco that was based in Perth and was mobilised to near every house fire (last 90's at least). The old SET was the HAZMAT truck based at Welshpool until the BACU got decommissioned and HAZMAT was changed to SET to cover both roles and moved to Perth. Once the two new SET's were build they we decentralised and move to Murdoch and Osbourne Park.

I'd agree with most of that except the last bit.

When the new Osborne Park station was opened, the old SET moved there along with the LRV I believe to enable 4x crew response. The first of the new SETs then went to Osborne Park and the second to Murdoch once commissioned. Of course the spare spent a lot of time at both stations in the early days of the new Scanias.

I photographed the old BACU in Fremantle when I still lived over there years after it was decommissioned.

I always thought the LRV was stationed at Perth until the moved to the new fire station, last time I saw it was an Old Mazda LP. BTW - Where is the LRV stationed now?

The LRV was only working with Osborne Park crews prior to the Scania SET (dual cab) because the Nissan is a single cab.
