For those who have been to the mound already, what would you have to say with regards to the attendance? Numbers? Any demographics being surprisingly represented?

I've been a couple of times now and as Matt says, there seems to be three distinct groups of people - the dedicated "plane spotters" who are there with SLR cameras and enthusiastically recording plane types and registrations, the people who are just there for a general look, and then there's the families who come to watch a specific plane depart or arrive (possibly with family members on board or something...)Mug wrote:For those who have been to the mound already, what would you have to say with regards to the attendance? It's quite a nice area, my only concern is that it may get ruined or vandalised - I do wonder if that's why a toilet block isn't there. More to have to clean and maintain. The container of free earplugs has already gone - people were attacking it because they couldn't figure out how to get the earplugs out of it
Oh and the classic for me the other day was the group of guys having a whinge because someone was late to get there that morning and open the gate. For the level of complaining, you'd think they'd paid hundreds of dollars for entry!

Its locked up at light to try reduce vandalism.

My understanding is that it's not really an ICV as you may be thinking about it from a FESA perspective. From a CASA Document, it says that an FCP is: "The point where co-operating agency heads assemble to receive and disseminate information and make operational decisions on the immediate rescue operation. The FCP serves as the focus for command and control operations of the combat and support agencies. The location of the Forward Command Post, in the initial period, will also serve as the location of the Emergency Co-ordination Centre, until the ECC is established in the main building area. The FCP should be kept free of non-essential vehicles and personnel. Separate marshalling areas should be established by emergency service agencies."Robo wrote:It's the airports version of a FESA ICV. As far as I know, if there is ever a major incident at Perth Airport, the FCP will be deployed by the appropriate airport staff and it will be placed as close to the incident as is safe. You would expect to see the Belmont ICV at one of these gates, for example.
The function of the FESA ICV and the airport's FCP are entirely different, and shouldn't be compared.
The command staff at the FCP are in overall control of the incident scene, and other agencies need to co-ordinate through the FCP to gain access, etc. I would imagine that the airport would be providing safety officers to escort other emergency service personnel airside and get them to where they need to be, and so on. All this would be under the direction of the staff at the FCP.
What makes you think that? I'm sure that the airport staff generally know what they're doing. For a major international airport, there has to be plans and procedures in place and I'd be fairly confident in assuming that those plans are dusted off and tested (in part or in full) on a regular basis. Sure, they may only ever do a "full incident" exercise once a year, but they'd be doing other smaller practice drills and tests on an ongoing basis. Everything from learning which roads or taxi-ways get you from any part of the airport to any other part in the most efficient manner, practicing driving the FCP (I wonder if that's what was happening in that photo) for different airport staff, and so on.Helitak_670 wrote:I am sure that if something were to happen it would be a complete Cluster F^%$.

Yes they are tested every year in the disaster exercise with FESA SJAA and WAPOL

Zebedee I read what you copied from the casa document and that pretty much sounds like an ICV to me.
Someone pretty high up in FESA was the one that told me it was the airports ICV however they called it an FCP....
