A few quick pics from Naval Base today, taken through the windscreen
TE457 at front:
TE459 at rear, the cherry picker used to lift up the power line:
two prime movers:
didn't get a shot of the rear due to traffic going past, but at the intersection a person walked at the rear of the trailer turning the wheels via some sort of controller.
Traffic Escort
Re: Traffic Escort
Its probably a steering control. to steer the rear wheels on the trailer. like the fire bridages in the US use.

Re: Traffic Escort
i know this discussion came up somewhere else in the forum. but the Traffic Escort 4WDs aren't officially WAPOL cars are they? If not, why do they have WAPOL call signs on them?

Re: Traffic Escort
Yes those ones are WA Police vehicles.
I frequently see them heading into TEGS. Information is also available on the police website here.

Re: Traffic Escort
They are WAPOL vehicles. The unit is still a WAPOL unit and have a sworn OIC. Staff are non-sworn. Unit is based at State Traffic HQ in Midland.

Re: Traffic Escort
Thats correct, their OIC is the only sworn person in the unit. They have limited powers under the RTA and VSR's. They are non-sworn although most are ex-coppers that took a payout and then returned "to the job". They wear the old khaki uniforms (ex Country WAPOL) with a WAPOL Patch identical to the sworn officers that states - "Traffic Escort Warden" instead of "POLICE". Jobs in this area pop-up rarely... As for equipment in the vehicle they are equipped with a Light-bar, Siren, WAPOL UHF & HF comms. Usually they are listening to UHF CB on their travels and MAY occasionally "book on" with VKI. Most of their days when they are not on the road are spent hanging around at State Traffic HQ's trying to appear busy! Most of their work involves weekends as this is when the big gear moves out from the City...phreak wrote:cheers for clearing that up! so the drivers themselves aren't sworn just the OIC?ConstableCare wrote:They are WAPOL vehicles. Your average "joe blow" Truck Escort Driver only has 1 section of the RTA applicable to them. They have no other powers and complete a 3 day "Pilot" Course. Guess their pay isn't too bad - averages $1.20 - $1.30 per km..
