Ive seen some down my way before. I live near Murdoch University and I think they do something with the uni there.

What colour are those LEDs? Is this a priority vehicle?
CANT HEAR THE POLICE ANYMORE?

all red LED's.
Yes a P2 class vehicle like the rest of the DEC vehicles. Haven't seen one done up like that though. Great snaps.

They're not magenta lights like those of the DPI transport inspectors?

I believe they are. They dont have a siren either (neither do DEC Fire vehicles, so they are NOT 'priority' vehicles!)

Great photos Caddy1,

I do have a question though.

I'm assuming FRS/VFRS are the primary hazmat response in the metro area (and maybe statewide?) and that mines, ports, industry etc would have their own spill response for the smaller (on site) stuff.

When does DEC get involved and what do they do?

im assuming large environmental things they would get a gig at?
The other DEC pollution response, a ute with gear on the back has a magenta LED lightbar and is marked up similar to this one.

They looked magenta to me. I have seen DEC fire vehicles with red and amber lights out and about, I dont know what priority this gives them as I have also seen Ranger vehicles with the same at City of Cockburn and Town of Kwinana.

DEC fire vehicles have no priority, there lights are fireground use only. which is silly cause like in country areas they are first to respond. I have heard that some select DEC fire appliances will be going to red and blues. Not sure on the accuracy of it but. Rangers with red and amber are usually FCO's aswell

I think you'll find in country areas, the first to respond will be the farmers etc. DEC won't have appliances in areas where there isn't land under their care and control.

Smithy, just because a vehicle can be a first responding vehicle doesn't automatically mean it needs red & blue lights. From memory red and blue lights are reserved for vehicles that are responding to situations where human life may be reasonably considered at risk or harm. Police, Ambulance and Fire (FRS and BFB) fall under this category. A fire deep in the bush wouldn't reasonably considered any harm to human life (in the short to medium term anyway).

Some DEC avehicles i heard were getting red and blues but Yeh not due to the first response. was just an example of some situations. Maybe more so the manager cars? My guess is as good as anyones. anyway this is off topic.
