Possibly the contoller is for an HF radio, the big antenna might be part of the HF system.

It is the handpiece for a Codan NGT hf radio. The antenna on the front is a codan 9350

ey Budda all the Regional offices have HF radios for comms as phone coverage is not very reliable.

Most regional office have HF. The South West has a base but no vehicles have HF.

A couple of the metro staff including the comms techs have HF radio's fitted.

so what do they use the HF system for, as yeah fire trucks dont have HF radios in them?

Who's to say that Fire Appliances are all that they communicate with? They all come under 'Operational Services' within FESA.

HF is used for communication with country SES. In some areas with the other DM's.
Policy statement 7 says the FESA is to maintain HF as a back to failed Telecoms particularly with the North West
