Light tankers only pump out around 200L/min whereas 2.4s/3.4s can put out about 1900L/min. 1.4s can pump about 380L/min. (Source: FESA website)

The flow rate isn't realy the issue, its the volume of water needed to extinguish the fire. With a LT only holding around 500 lt, and at a guess they probally would have used between 10,000 to 20,000 lt to extinguish this fire (possibly more), it makes for a lot of light tankers. With no water source near this incident, plenty of 3,000 lt + tankers are the way to go.

Edit: Why was only 1 Light Tanker turned out to a truck fire to begin with?
Light tanker was out patrolling an incident when the call came through, thats why they were there first.

I would have estimated more like 100,000 L and that would be a fair estimate. I saw when I was filling up several times in our 24 that both 92 appliances filled up at least 3 times, and the singleton 72 filled up 3 times, so that makes 75k, plus we were realying a 24 and 2X34's, plus the initial water that was on each appliance. The lts were parked up, although we used a couple for mop up around the area.

yep jonesy your rite approx 120 000 litres of water.
and as a dollar figure was looking at approx 170 000 dollars damage. the cab was saved but obviously water, heat, and smoke damage and the rear tyres destroyed.

3 light tankers were initially t/out, baldivis lt1, first on scene. As jonesy said we were patrolling an earlier incident. as seen in the first 2 pics and were on our way back to station when the call came through. lt2 t/out about 7-8 min after and singleton lt2 about 15-20 min.

also we generally as a brigade rule will send out a LT first because if it is a large fire that will initially become an incident control point. but in the summer months it isnt long before every one of our trucks are out

And they are only estimates which seem to vary a lot depending on the station officer.

50k-70k new for a good one 25k - 40k for a good second hand one . Cab and trailer would be pushing 170k. For that model anyway.

But turbo probaly wasnt a station officer which gave that estimate as i think it was a BFS job maybe it came from there cheif or captain etc.
