Don't want to sound like a sour puss but why are the vechiles so outdated? In Tasmania we have rather modern fire vechiles? I admit when I visited Perth the police cars and ambos seemed rather old?
Happy scanning,

When I was in Tassie about 12 months ago, most of the appliances were far from modern. Some would not start, some would just randomly stop on the way to a fire.
I dont know what it was like down south Robb, but I was up north in Tassie and we had some that were just straight out terrible. Not sure of what was replaced in the last year since I have been here but alot of the outer metro brigades had some shockers.
Typically too, this issue was compounded more by the fact that brigades in Tassie typically had much smaller fleets aswel. A number of brigades only have one appliance. Alot of work has been done recently to improve these, and the Medium Tanker Bulid (1.4 units in WA Terms) has drastically improved the reliability of brigades to be actually able to turn out.
I can recall a number of occasions that our brigade was called because neighbouring brigades could not get there appliances to start.

There's only three manufacturers of fire appliances in W.A. (maybe four?) They have to build appliances for both 23 career and around 100 volunteer FRS Brigades plus the numerous BFS, VES and VFS Brigades around the state. 144 local government areas exist in W.A. Leaving out the metro area LGAs there'd be at least 100 having at least one BFS Brigade. (There's about a dozen in my local Shire and we get about two new appliances per year.)
The companies also repair and refurbish appliances.
Not something that happens overnight. Check out other forums and see what other States/Territories have got... some have appliances worse than ours.
