Unusual Car??
the only unmarked cars the Australian Customs Service use in WA are whilte holden rodeos and they have 2 white mobile x-ray vans. the x-ray vans are Mercedes Vito cab chasis truck with the xray in the back.Tuyoshi wrote:I think it may be an unmarked CUSTOMS DDU Vehicle
also ACS in West Aus use mobile phones to communicate.
here is some info on the ACS mobile x-ray van. This is exactly like the one in WA because this is the only company in Aus that builds them.

Wish there were more pics. I would get some photos next time it comes to my workplace but unfortunately not allowed to take photographs in a Customs controlled International Freight warehouse.....

Yep, that's right. You wouldn't get pulled over by BCI (WAPOL) or AFP surveillence vehicles, they aren't interested in that sort of thing. If they needed you stopped, they'd contact either a marked or unmarked vehicle to do it.Ludacris wrote:Again your wrong... what you are talking about are unmarked Police vehicles..... You will never ever get pulled over by a covert vehicle and you will never ever know if you are next to one.....
The only giveaway is the little motorola antenna that sits on the parcel shelf, though sometimes now they place a hat or tissue box over it.

Bureau of Criminal Intelligence. If you have seen the show STINGERS, it loosely based on this team, though not too much is revealed. An ex BCI member became the on set consultant for the show to make it as realistic as possible without giving away too much. Those Motorola antennas on parcel shelves are common for this unit in each state, and are increasing being used for day to day two-way operators who don't want obvious antennas (like private investigators for example).
This antenna has the ground plane below the shelf, but often you'll see the black metal base (about 150mm x 100mm) sitting plainly on the shelf with the antenna in the middle.

Question 1 - Yes they can assist with OMCG stuff if required. Mainly armed robbery and organised crime surveillance. They have encrypted channels, but occasionally you can hear surveillance unencrypted on Channel 3.
Question 2 - When PI's work as a team (for various reasons - maybe several exits of the subjects street or the subject drives erratically and requires more than one PI to follow, or when they have one PI in a static position watching the subject and another ready in a vehicle for the follow etc..).
If you are interested in listening to PI's, Meridian Services operate on 490.325 MHz, though are generally using simplex so you'll only hear them if they are close. They do operate through a repeater in the city so they'll go duplex if they are out of range for simplex operations.
