Post by Sinbin »

Hey all i am new here at warsug. I was just wondering if anyone knew where i could get hold of Tait T2020 VHF mid-band for listening to FESA??
I am a mamber of the local VFRS here in bunbury and would like to get one of the radios for my ute.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They're hard to get as everyone wants to do the same thing, but they do appear on Ebay every now and again.

If you just want to listen why not use a scanner?
It is illegal to be in possession of a transmitter you are not licensed for.
Granted you are in the VFRS but you can only transmit from one of their vehicles base stations or hand helds .

.. unless you have received approval to have one in your private vehicle. Granted, this is more likely in BFB land and only then, if you have good reason to.

Gday Sinbin, Welcome to the forum. Depending on your budget a good starter scanner for the purpose would be something like a Uniden 93xlt. These are reasonably priced and available at your local Dick Smith's etc. It is a handheld unit and you will find that it will perform quite well in and around town using the supplied antenna. I would recommend that if you intend using it the car that you consider installing an external antenna to the vehicle. I have a Mobile one "Bandspanner" antenna on my vehicle and this provides good reception on the FESA frequencies. You might also consider an external antenna for use at home, quite a few of us have the "SCBASE" antenna from Mobile one and these perform really well. Check this info here http://www.mobileone.com.au/antennas/scanner.htm . These are also available at places like Dick Smith etc. Let us know how you go.

Cheers
