I have a brand new in box Tait T2020 series 2 that i believe is ready for use on Australias Rail network.
I know nothing about Radios / Scanners / Receivers and was hoping someone could help me with info about it.
I want to sell it but am not sure what its worth? Im not sure if this something that anyone can use? or only rail operators?
I have been told that its a good reliable brand, has been programmed with expensive software??? and is a sort after model?
It has a code on the box which is SHT2020-513-I00 & S/N - 17078285.
It has engraving on the head which says PTC 99606 & QPS R0010166.
Please forgive my ignorance but I didnt no where else to ask these questions and any response will be appreciatied.
P.S - Please tell me this is wortha fortune

Where are you from, Victoria? Or is the radio from there?

I am from South Australia but the Radio originated from Victoria. How did you know that?yorky wrote:Where are you from, Victoria? Or is the radio from there?

Engraving PTC stands for Public Transport Corporation, public transport and railway operator in Victoria, Australia.
Now that might be harmless (old radio removed and sold), or its removed ie stolen (which is why they are engraved for identification). Without supporting documentation stating its been sold to you, well you know the rest.

Although it has never been installed - its still brand new in original box and plastic packaging.
I just googled PTC and it seems that it was privatised over 10 years ago. Is this radio that old? and I just cant believe that it was originaly stolen over 10 years ago and has never been installed. Its all very interesting.

Well it all comes down to your sources of where you got it from etc really. Without documentation it would be hard to tell the true story.

Attention Everyone!!!!Its important to note that I don't know what frequencies are programmed into this radio and it's the buyer's responsibility to check that they are allowed to transmit on whatever frequencies are set up.
Thanks
Thanks

400-470Mhz I'd say (from the part number). Not much of interest falls in that frequency range (except Amateur 70cm band)Bitsnpieces wrote:Attention Everyone!!!!Its important to note that I don't know what frequencies are programmed into this radio and it's the buyer's responsibility to check that they are allowed to transmit on whatever frequencies are set up.

In that condition and on that band (and assuming it doesn't have some weird custom railways firmware) I'd guess it's worth in the ballpark of $500 or so.

Thanks for the ballpark figure. Is there anyway for me to know if it has custom railway firmware just by looking at the unit or something?vk6hgr wrote:In that condition and on that band (and assuming it doesn't have some weird custom railways firmware) I'd guess it's worth in the ballpark of $500 or so.

It probably isn't worth the effort to confirm the frequencies. It's most likely going to need a reconfig anyway.
