Marine - UHF or VHF Handheld??

Post by HEKTIK »

Hi guys, me and my mate have just bought a 12 foot ali boat and were in the market for a marine handheld radio, not too sure what would be better a old 5 watt 27mhz, or a new 5watt VHF. Not looking at going too far off shore, about 3 mile max, and never used either type of radio so looking for some suggestions from other users if any are on this forum.

cheers

You need to obtain a license to operate VHF marine, whereas 27MHz is class licensed (no individual licensing). As for one over the other, I'll handball that one to the boaties :)
