CB radio's... Confusion!

Post by Rusty_Nail »

Evening all.

I'm looking at purcahsing a new CB radio.
Theres way too many on the market at the moment with new ones coming out all the time.

I've sort of narrowed it down to Uniden models (huge uniden fan!)
Going to go for the "value packs" from Prestige, as I can't really be bothered getting seperate coax cable, antenna's, connectors, etc.. and its obviously cheaper doing it this way (hence the word "value pack") :D

Both located on this URL

http://www.prestigecom.net.au/default.a ... openmenu=1

The models I have narrowed down to are the

1 - Uniden UH088SX 4wd 6db GI Antenna Package $295.00
2 - Uniden UH090 AM & UHF Combined Radio Pack $335.00

For an extra $40 I can get a model that has UHF and AM and 2 antenna's
(6db UHF) (27MHZ). However, the only problem I face is most 27meg users now days use lower sideband or Upper sideband (USB/LSB), I'm unsure of whether its has them or just straight AM... Doesnt say in the online manual's or anything... Don't spose anyone knows??

Bit stuck on a decision here, any help would be great :D

Cheers

Yes, it's AM only, not SSB.

I would seriously consider checking out other brands as while Uniden make good equipment in some ranges, their CB's are pretty much just a bog standard no frills rig.

Take a look at the Icom IC-400pro or the GME TX4400, they are both good rigs and will get you started.

If you are new to CB then I suggest the latter, as the Icom isn't the easiest in the world to get your head around.
