I did not know that PER08 was back in service. Is it at the same location as it previously was?

Cheers

I often hear people talking on Channel 5. Is it actually illegal or just a preferred thing? Would ACMA ever do anything about any illegal activity on UHF these days?

It's illegal. ACMA do investigate interference complaints.

And to quote the ACMA website: (the underlining is mine...)
Breaches of Licence Conditions

It is important that CB radio users comply with each condition in the class licence. Section 132(3) of the Act provides that:

'Operation of a radiocommunications device is not authorised by a class licence if it is not in accordance with the conditions of the licence.'

If any condition of licence is breached (eg, operating on a frequency not mentioned in the class licence or using an emergency channel for non emergency purpose) the operator is no longer authorised to operate under the class licence. In this instance, the operator would be liable for prosecution.

Howdy all. Thought I'd register and pop in here. There must've been a complaint filed to the ACMA for commercials on channel 5 because I received a call yesterday from them in regards to it. Yep, I'm the licence holder.

Unfortunately it would seem that the general public can't lodge a complaint about the commercials using it; only I can. So, if you'd like to assist me I can lodge formal complaints that the ACMA will investigate and prosecute them if necessary. Just drop me a private message on here; I've been asked to provide as much details as I can in the complaint before they'll get mobile and track the offenders down. I can't just report "they're using it - go get 'em" so please provide specifics.

Whilst I don't really use CB anymore, I do flick it on now and again to check the repeater is operational (however, the ACMA does the same and would notify me if there were any technical issues anyway - that's good too). On a side note, I know that several people monitor the repeater; does anyone know of any group or organisation (I remember the old CERT days) that does still?

Hi Ambient.

Thanks for providing the repeater!

I usually stick 5 on scan when I'm driving. Only problem is that the squelch drifts badly when the weather's warm and all you hear is hash retransmitted from the receiver.

Yeah, a good old trait of the FM828 I'm afraid. I might get the guys at MM's to take it down and give it a going over and make sure everything's spic. Was just on there and it seemed ok; good old heat. The room itself does heat up quite quickly even though there's lots of ventilation units around circulating... But that's one of the problems when you've got a big groupsite with lots of equipment too. Hence why I went for an 828 as opposed to something else because they're a tried and tested unit and lets face it - there's lots of spare parts for them :)

Is there still a CREST group? Otherwise, maybe a VOX operated recorder monitoring the channel for a few days could at least provide audio evidence as a start..

id be more than happy to monitor the emergency channel but i dont get into it well enough , VOX is only good for evedence , next to pointless if the call is recorded but goes unanswered
