27 MHz

Do many people still use 27MHz CB these days? I used to burn on the old box all the time when I lived in the tropics and still have a few good sets but people a saying that its becoming less and less popular in Australia? Does anyone have anything to say?

It comes back with the sunspot cycle. But it is nearly impossible to buy a new SSB 27 mHz radio. Appears not as popular with the braindead and you can have a conversation without hearing the in/out word 5 times per sentence. Still no substitute for amateur radio......

My ex has a 27Mhz he bought second hand from a hire boat guy.... We searched for ages about 2 years ago trying to find one with no luck (except overly priced ones). He still uses it around Rockingham, as the sea rescue there still has the band operational.

There's 27MHz marine, and 27MHz CB - they're different.

I live in the Northern Territory, however in Perth atm. Up there I used to be able to sit on the 27MHz on SSB, more specifically LSB, and be able to get contacts from Brisbane to Melbourne.

not the only one chicky I just thought the marine radios's were waterproofed standard 27Mhz radios so I've learnt something.

It shouldn't really matter what mode (AM, Sideband) you use. The fact it's 27MHz should mean it travels further.

Operation of a CB station must only employ:
(a) AM with a transmitter power not exceeding
4 watts pZ with a necessary bandwidth not
exceeding 6 kHz; or
(b) SSB modulation using USB or LSB with a
transmitter power not exceeding 12 watts pX
and with a necessary bandwidth not exceeding
3 kHz.
(For HF except on channels 11 & 16.)

what as in terms of uhf? 4watts plus 27mhz yer, i would think thats why its more powerfull , is that what you ment?
ph and yer as of before thats what i ment , am yer its 27 mhz which is why its futher. i guess UHF is more popular cos its got repeaters? is that why?

whats the in/out word that Nick mentioned? do you have to say that when your talking on AM do you?
