Hi Guys

Im looking at buying a GME tx3220 UHF cb.

I'm totally new to the whole radio thing but want to get myself started.
Is this a good cb radio? It seems to be at the lower end of the range but in saying that has all the features that i will need for now.

And secondly, will i be able to pick up the cops if i scan the frequencies?

Not for long, there slowly moving to digital radio and then encrypting it.
People think that they can break the encryption but that will require some hefty computer work,

Appreciate the input. Another question, I have a roll bar on my ute and want to mount my aerial along side that. Is it a bad idea to put an aerial right next to a metal object, especially if the roll bar is half the height of the aerial? Or will this have no effect?

You're right, the metal rollbar will interfere with the antenna.

I'd use a small antenna like this one and mount it on the top of the rollbar.

If this (below) is the list of channels and corresponding frequencies, how is that i will be able to listen to say something on say 40mhz? Or am i not able to with a standard uhf cb.

There not UHF CB channels!!!
thats the 27mhz range!!!

you may be able to listen to something depending on your scanner;
I've googled your scanner and it will only tune to the UHF CB channels

Sorry just one more question,

With my new GME tx3220 can i listen to HJ's innaloo on frequency 40.4100? Not that i really want to listen, but its more of an example to help my understanding.

I know its a UHF cb but im a little confused with all the frequency listings on the frequencies threads.

If i scan can i pick up these kind of frequencies? ie. 40.4100 etc

Im really new to all this and have no idea what im doing. hahaha, theres always one isn't there.

I just googled the model and it is not a "radio scanner". It is a 40 channel UHF CB transceiver (even though it will scan through the 40 fixed UHF CB frequencies). You can't really program it to receive other frequencies. I think what you are after is a scanner, not a transceiver, or at least both.

Unfortunately, no. Your radio can only transmit and receive on the 40 UHF CB channels (476.425 to 477.400Mhz). Nothing else.

But i have another question. It says that this radio will allow me to scan frequencies 403-520 MHz. Is this right? So will this allow me to get a bit of a foot in the door of general scanning? Who would generally be on these frequencies?

That's right.

Be careful with some of the GME models though... some have scanning but the scan channels can only be dealer programmed! Make sure it says "user programmable".
