I have just received my OPC478 cable to program my Icom IC-41S
handheld, but cant seem to get it to work, I keep getting the error
about the cant access com port error.

I have tried different COM ports without success, and I don't have a
problem with my Icom 400PRO.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

im not sure with radios but with other devices they need drivers , it just tells the computer what it is (ic 41s/ic 400 pro), to check click start then right click on my computer (in start menue) then click manage arfter that click Device Manager .
then in the MAIN window it might have some devices with a YELLOW caution/attention triangle labled "other devices" these are the devices with no drivers ..
i know im bad at explaining things so if you find this/ have any troubles let me know

i have the ic40s. I couldn't get it to work with Windows 95+

I was using an old 386 (DOS) to program it until the hard disk failed last year

Can you program the 41s via XP or do you have to use a 'slower' OS - like 95/98 (similar to programming radios for GME)
?
