If its ok I just thought I'd start a thread here that has anything to do with the channel 8 repeater.
Anyway I'm Bill and I'm on there alot of the times. Most of the time I just listen.

Hi Bill
Just listening tonight hearing poor Claude deal with the halfwits during the callback. Like I've said before, it was much of the reason why I barely use CB anymore and went to amateur...

Hi Gavin
Yeah I know what you mean.
It gets pretty crazy during the callback.
Is it true that there is a thing called a direct link - to the repeater?
And if there is I wonder why Claude doesn't use it.
Just last night I was listening to Ch 8 at around 2145, someone named grumpy copped a beatdown in Girrawhen for being "unproffessional" on the radio. It sounded pretty full on.

Hi Bill,
Take what I hear on all the UHF CB repeaters with a pinch of salt, and normally stay well clear of there and stick to simplex. Another one of the reasons I am currently studying for an amateur radio licence.
Interesting to see you are in Koondoola, I am also.
You can often find me monitoring UHF CH 14 of an evening, look me up!

A direct link into a repeater do they exist ???
Yes, It is when there is a normal repeater (in this case uhf cb).
Where someone sets up a repeater for uhf cb, tx8 rx38......this is a normal uhf cb repeater.
The direct link is another repeater in very close range to the original repeater (being ch8 uhfcb as above) where the rx frequency would be a commercial freq, and the tx would be ch38 uhfcb.
The point of the commercial freq is so that no-one can access the direct link "repeater" without permission of the licensee of that freq.
Then all you have to do is get a commercial radio and set the channel up like this: tx-commercial freq rx-ch8 uhfcb
Therefore the direct link receives the commercial transmission and re-transmits it on the uhf cb repeaters rx channel which causes people to be dumped on or squashed ect ect.
I can make you a picture and email it to you if you still require this and the above doesnt make sense.
They are always being used in sydney.

Yeah... until the ACMA came and took the repeater away for operating illegally

They used to have a website which I upgraded and maintained for them a couple of years back, but the domain expired and I went off air for quite a while and had no contact with Claud or anyone else.
It used to be at
www.uhfwa.org.au but the site has now disappeared.
edit: looks like they have renewed the domain but there's actually no webpage there!

I'm pretty sure there is a direct link to the repeater by means of phone. Well there used to be. Claude could call the repeater from his home phone and enter a pin which would give him the power over everyone. I'll ask now whether there still is a direct link...

AFAIK, a direct link into the repeater , also known as a beamer.
is a yaggi antenna pointed directly to the repeater antenna.
