Ok i want to buy the Baofeng UV-5R, it is from china, 5W and i understand you can't use the channels past 80, and it has 128. If i were to buy it, could i use it only up to channel 80 just in my house, without getting in trouble? because i want a good radio, and the only cheap ones are from china. Here it is: http://aotopto.en.alibaba.com/product/8 ... itter.html

The radio supports 128 channels, so it has 128 slots for programming frequencies into it. UHF CB uses 80 channels but with a radio like that you could program the rest of the slots with receive-only frequencies on whatever you like.

If it is programmed correctly that radio will work on UHF CB. It won't be legal to own as it's not class licensed.

These Chinese radios are really cool for amateur operators as it gives us insanely cheap multi-band radios to play with but they're so dangerous as they are able to transmit practically anywhere...

No. Not under any circumstance. It is illegal to own and it is illegal to operate.

Mate your an idiot, it's only illegal to use, not fricken own. I have contacted both the radio communications, and customs. It is only illegal to operate on the private frequencies. No one seems to be able to answer my question, CAN I USE THE 128 CHANNEL RADIO, ON ONLY 80 CHANNELS, WITHOUT BREAKING ANY LAWS?

Fine. No. You can't.

Whoever you spoke to (although I doubt that you actually have) in Customs was wrong. The Radiocommunications Act is clear as a bell on this - Illegal to own.

No, you're just an arrogant and petulant child who can't seem to get it through his skull after being told time and time again by people with more experience and legal knowledge that you're not allowed to do what you want to do.

When you can behave like a grown up, come back and join in the forum. Until then, you're not welcome.
