PRO400: Activating OPC-617

Post by Les-Peters »

I'm a Newbie, chasing some help.

I have an ICOM PRO400 and have installed an OPC-617 because I want to operate the unit in a console with a couple of other radios and switching to select the Mic, PTT and headphones amongst the radios

According to the User Manual it appears to be a simple task to fit the OPC-617 and away you go. In reality.....

I have no audio out
I have no response to PTT in
I do not know if I have modulation in because there is no TX when I hit PTT.

Does the PRO400 need some sort of software configuring to activate the OPC-617?? I can't find anything in the user manual, nor in the Service Manual.

Cheers

Have you connected the F jumper on the board inside the radio? the external PTT has to be selected in the software under the "expert" heading.

Thanks for the reply nra555. Sure appreciate you taking the time

I'll be transmitting voice, so I assume I need the D jumper for audio modulation in, not the F jumper for data???

And it seems like I need to get the programming software to set the PTT. Have downloaded a copy and will be ordering a programming cable.

Any clues on the audio?? I have no audio output on the OPC-617 pin 2. Audio is working out of the internal speaker, but I need to get it into external headphones.

Cheers

Have waded through the Programming Software and didn't find anything on turning AFO on or off.

The schematic in the Service Manual shows an AFON function with voltages for ON and OFF. I measured the AFON line and found that it sits at the OFF voltage. Seems like I need that ON to enable AFO in the OPC output. Anyone have any ideas?

i have 2 400pro's in a repeater setup, and it required the f jumper connected to pass audio.

this may be of some use to you, it explains the OPC-617 a little.

Great info there. Thanks.

I note that site says use D for AF and F for data. I'm still puzzled by that.
