Emergency Code - 7700
Royal Helicopter Flights - 0037

is this the same for all countries

A little something from Air Services Australia - GAAP Visual Pilot Guide.

If you are engaged in circuit training in the Jandakot control zone, you mist set your transponder to code 3000 and ALT. If you are departing or arriving at Jandakot you should set your transponder to 3000 and ALT when in the zone, and when you are clear of the Jandakot CTR, set 1200 and ALT unless allocated a discrete code

If in class G airspace and you have a radio failure
* Squawk code 7600
* Stay in VMC
* Continue to broadcast intentions and prefix all radio calls with "Transmitting Blind"
* If possible, land at the nearest suitable aerodrome

A Mayday call (during an emergency) - Squawk code is 7700

7500, 7600 and 7700 are world wide as is VFR 1200

The rest are not so, in the USA they use 2200 for IFR outside controlled airspace or radar coverage, we use 2000.

Most squawk codes are random including RFDS and Air Ambulance.

Military have a set range
