And if these two wont go on the ramp, you wont have any chance of flying

I saw delays and cancellations for XR, DJ, SQ, MH, QF, NZ, JQ QZ

The Qantas staff actually have a lightning detection unit, when they walk off every one else goes.

Yeah, i had to laugh at that perthnow article with all the union bashing. Despite Aerocare isn't unionised, and i dont think toll or skystar are (but dont quote me on that).

The whole day was chaos for everyone on the airfield, not just Qantas!

also: "Traveller Adam Masters was frustrated to be aboard a Qantas plane from Sydney more than 90 minutes after it landed at Perth Airport." LOL! There were planes out there for over 6 hours, 90 minutes is nothing.

Skystar and Toll are unionised

Skystar is owned by Monodelphous and being a mining company, allot of OHS stuff comes over, it is in the Skyastar OHS manual not to be on the ramp during Electrical storms.

Brad the CEO of WAC stated on the news that there had been several strikes go to ground on the airfield

I know AN-124's are quite regular visitors to Perth but I always seem to find out after the event. How can I find out when one is scheduled into PER so I can go out and get some video?

Spent about an hour near the threshold of 06 tonight, some interesting approaches. 50+ knot winds at 250', down to 30+, with 20-25 knots of crosswind makes for a good view.

Qatar have pushed their Daily ops back to 01 DEC 12

Malaysia drops Kota Kinabalu Hub, and as a result dropping service to Perth starting JAN 2012

Another update from Qatar

As per 26JAN12 GDS timetable and inventory display, QATAR Airways is now planning to operate Boeing 777-200LR aircraft on Doha – Perth service when it begins operation from 03JUL12.

Previously the carrier planned to start the operation with Airbus A330-200, then switching to 777-200LR from late-October 2012.

Schedule:

QR900 DOH0110 – 1710PER 77L 246
QR901 PER2300 – 0520+1DOH 77L 246

Service remains on track to increase to Daily from 01DEC12

Virgin Australia starting 15MAY12 is offering Airbus A330-200 service on its 2 of 5 Daily Melbourne – Perth operation, replacing Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The airline currently operates 3 Daily A330-200 Sydney – Perth service.

Singapore Airlines Last 747 Passenger service will operate in March, this will be MEL SIN

I wonder if they have worked out where they are going to put this extra plane then... there is such little room as it is, i'm guessing it will probably be 678 (5.30am), and 690 (2.00pm? can't remember) going out, with 679 (11am ish), and the late night arrival of 697 (11pm) - that sounds most logical to me.

Overheard today that Alliance is getting a Boeing 737 around the 10th of Feb. Apparently it will be doing the PER - KTA - PER run.

As I originally said it would start with 777's. There is a definate needs for additional services to the ME and the initial interest has out weighed the A330 capacity. Good one QATAR for trying their luck out on new routes! Qantas and a few other carries should take a leaf out of their book instead of sitting on their hands or cutting routes!
