Hi all,

The antenna are work is going to be replaced, and I was wondering if anybody can tell me a bit about this style and if there is a better design for 129.25mhz transmitting and receiving.

Cheers,

Hard to tell but it looks like the common or garden variety of ΒΌ wave with ground plane. There probably isn't a better design for airband. If you use something like a collinear then it flattens the radiation pattern towards the ground which will only improve signals to other ground stations and you lose signal at higher angles (ie aircraft overhead will be worse)
A taller mast is probably the best improvement.
