Black Hawks

Post by westernwedgey »

All day the choppers have been going overhead sometimes up to three at once, are they allowed to fly that low.
Not even Polair flies over at this low alt.
Although i have seen the 7 chopper at that height overhead.

Is there any height restrictions for Black Hawks or are they exempt being military?

civillian aircraft are not allowed below 500 feet unless on approach... Military aircraft dont have a minimum altitude - they go as low as they can/is required

I beleive helicopters can go as low as they want if they are hovering (but not sure on that, i dont fly them)

Not true - you can fly lower if you have low level approval....

They are not "normally' allowed lower than 500' AGL unless T/O or LDG or have low level approval

Exactly...I was wondering what that was. Tonight I just kept hearing this unusual ROARING noise coming and going, I knew that wasnt poliar. Some scary sounding helicopter, it was if there was some invasion.... I presume that its a blackhawk since this post only started yesterday.

What are they doing, Training or something?

Also interesting when 4 of them flew over together only the last black hawk had there nav lights on.

Probably a defensive measure, then again Polair does it often also.

One just flew overhead then, no lights on except a red flashing tail light
