I don't think its used anymore (see trees in the middle of some strips), I remember looking this up a little while back and I think its an old RAAF base: http://www.ozatwar.com/airfields/middleswanairfield.htm

It used to be an Army Airstrip, and can still be used in wartime if needed

In the 60's (i think) the WA Sporting Car Club used it as their first Raceway.

It was known as Caversham. It hasn't been used for some decades, and was used as a racetrack until the 60s. It's currently earmaked for housing.

The Caversham site was designed as a medium bomber base in WW2 and never put into use by them, RAAF used it untli 1945 for training. It was used for the Australian Grand Prix in 1957 and 1962 and was also used for the 6 hour Le Mans between 1955 and 1968 then was resumed for military activities. The Army had transmitting station/listening post here until 2000. The land was vested to the state government who intend to build houses on most of it. The former signals building and workshops are being used by the The Vintage Sports Car Club for meetings and working on vehicles.

The VSCC is working on a preservation plan to save as much as possible of the military and racing heritage of the site.

True. I live next to a wildlife park, (Whiteman) and that is about 5 clicks away from housing. COS wants to rip all the bush around it, and put that all into housing.

LOL i drive by this all the time. I always thought it was part of RAAF Pearce. (i thought that was a bit off :| )
