Laser Threat to Aircraft

Guys, not sure if you watched 7news last nite, but there is a new threat to Pilots flying at night especially Passenger Aircraft...

Saying that people are using high powered lasers to "blind" pilots whilst attempting to land.......

Channel 7 gave a demonstration with their chopper and I was absolutley stunned that people would actually do this to endanger the lives of the pilots and others onboard.....

I think this is stupid and irresponsible, and it will only be a matter of time till a plane does go down with this cause....!!!!!!

Just my 2 cents worth

I agree - I own one of those so-called "industrial strength" lasers for my astronomy classes and made sure I told my students today in no uncertain terms that they would be in serious trouble if they caused a crash of an aircraft.

"I think this is stupid and irresponsible" - absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pointing out stars on observation evenings. It's like holding up a glowing broom handle - very useful and very very cool!

I think we'd better not use laser pointer arbitrarily.

NSW govt may ban laser pointers
Sunday Mar 30 09:23 AEDT
The NSW government is considering a ban on laser pointers after six planes had to alter their flight paths into Sydney after being targeted in a "cluster attack" on Friday.

The planes changed their flight paths into Kingsford Smith Airport after pilots were targeted by four green lasers around 10.30pm (AEDT) Saturday.
