hey all im brand new to this kinda thing but have wanted to get into it for awhile now , i was able to buy a UBC92XLT for $100 new to use when i am at jandakot airport, and i am wondering if it would even be possible to tune to jandakot from port kennedy with an external antenna on my roof but without spending alot of money , $100 would be pushing it in my case.

regards
Jones

It's certainly possible.. it looks like 25-30 km away. A half decent vertical antenna on the roof should do the job. I don't know you will be able to do it for less than $100 though. Have you got a TV antenna mast on the roof you can mount an antenna on? Otherwise you could try something mounted on the gutter but you lose the height advantage

you will most likely be able to receive the aircraft, but receiving the tower may be difficult

i can sometimes recieve aircraft as they fly over , i have a mount from an old bushcom wifi antenna at the top of my roof and i have heaps of coaxial cable. so would just need an antenna. are there any diy antennas around ?

These are popular with scanner users. You can hang it from a tree branch or mount it on a mast. It has a shortish lead on it so you'll probably need to make an extension with the heaps of coax you have.

I can vouch for these antenna's I've got one mounted to a tv antenna mount for my scanner and I pick up a lot of things from around the traps.
