Weird Issue

Hey everyone,

Have been around in this forum for ages, great info inside, but still my first post...
My problem is with my scanner.
I seem to be recieving Radio Fremantle (107.9MHz happens to be the last FM freq) whilst tuned into the aviation band (118.1, 119.4, 120.9). Does this happen to anyone else or is it on my end (scanner, antenna)? I have a Uniden UBC340CRS and some conical antenna from Prestige Comm.

Any help would be great,

Thanks
Freshy

Do you live in or near Fremantle? If so you might be getting drowned out due to proximity. Otherwise it might be an image frequency. I can pick up most of the commercial FM stations when I'm tuned around 144.5 MHz on one scanner. Very annoying. I'm surprised it's that much of a problem considering you're in an AM band.

I live in Melville.

Is the image frequency an issue with Fremantle Radio's transmission equipment?

Sorry if this is a stupid question as i'm not really that knowledgeable when it comes to scanning, i mainly use mine for listening to ATC.

Image frequency is a function of the receiver (scanner). The transmitter site appears to be at " Community Radio Broadcast Site View Tce EAST FREMANTLE" That might give you some idea how close they are to you. Looks fairly close to me. I'm not sure there's any easy way to solve your problem. Are you definitely using AM to receive on the air band?

Not sure what you mean...
I'm just putting the frequency into the scanner. It must be the correct freq as I can still pick up the transmissions.

AM or amplitude modulation is what is used by the air band, where some radio stations (including the station you quoted) use FM, or frequency modulation.

I should pay more attention to what's posted. It was before 6am though ;-)
