I'm using ACARSD. It's the best free program I've found so far. Windows and Linux versions. I posted pics of the screencaps. Just search ACARSD on this site.

I was looking at your post, with the pictures, and I was wonder with PDW what exactly can you decode in perth? Can it be used to decode taxi dispatch information, or something?

I don't believe so. I've never actually tried taxi... yet. Works on the pager stuff around 148-149 MHz. You'd need to know the protocol they use.

Works with ACARS but very very basic. ACARSD has a lot more features

Hi everyone,

Just new to this forum :)
I'm living in Europe, Belgium ...
As new ACARSD user, I have a question : does it make any sense to scan more than ONE frequency to expect more airplane contacts ?

Thanks in advance for your reactions.

PDW apparently decodes ACARS; not sure if it works however.

PDW does work, but looks feeble compared to ACARSD... not that this helps Leopold. Scanning multiple frequencies will probably cause you to miss contacts. You could probably run two copies of the software, each on a different radio and soundcard, but whether you'd get more contacts, I don't know. It would be pointless here in Perth as only the international frequency is used and isn't very busy anyway. There's heaps of information to google and see what frequencies are used in Europe. If you use ACARSD then you'd get more contacts by connecting to a server and turn the radio off :)
