Hi Guys

I'm new here, and am a keen military enthusiast.

Have any of you seen or heard the jets over Perth tonight? I can hear them at my house (western suburbs) and did see them at one point.

Just wondering if you can actually listen to them talking etc, or not?

I'm a complete noob when it comes to scanners, so I do apologise in advance

RAAF PC9's were active at 1800 tonight, do not know about jets,but the western suburbs is the north west air corridor, the red bull air race is on this weekend, look at the other threads posted here in Warsug, , all the Perth Airport and Jandakot airportbfrequencys are posted in the forum under Aviation..jj

A few years ago (2004), 79 Sqn (BAe Hawk LIF) did a fly past over my school (Kent Street SHS - East Vic Park).

dont ask the specifics... i was 13, and wasnt paying attention till these jets went screaming 300 feet over the top of me

For the Red Bull Air Race, there is a Roulettes display on both days, and a F/A-18 Hornet Display on Sunday

F-18 was practising off the coast on Sunday arvo - high altitude...

I can only guess the same F/A-18 was around last night as well, very loud up the coast several times.

Out and about again this morning it would appear... Again at very high altitude!

Any tips on freq's we could listen out for?
(other than comms with Perth tower)
I would guess that they would all be encrypted anyway?

Well definately listen to Jandakot tower 118,1 until canning bridge, then 118.70 East of Burswood and north of City and west of the Uni, then it will be under RBAR from then, basically over water area, it is claimed that it could be 120.80 and 127.90. not garrenteed . Wombat, you should be able to find out working for RFDS as they would know and you may be able to get it from the Aero club or CHC R65, being in that position , they have it, jj

Yes BUT... It is "sensitive" information to just take it off the board from his work just to share it with us. You can lose your job over it.

Are you guys talk ing about the RBAR?

I was chasing military freq's that may have unencrypted voice.

As for RBAR, they are already programmed into the AOR ready for the weekend (no I will not given them out as it could come back tot haunt, and I like my job thanks )

I just got a call from a guy in the Roulettes checking if it's safe to fly over the training area in Swanbourne between 13:00 and 13:15 (which it is) so heads up if you're in Swanny or Cott around that time.

They are down here at Jandakot at the moment.... just refueling.
Have their chopper with them to..... which is just taking off.

Will see if the pics cam out any good....

If you're after some unencrypted voice from the F/A-18, set your scanner to 'search' between 225 and 400 mhz. If you have a good antenna (and a bit of luck) you will be rewarded.

AM @ 25K steps?

Antenna I have is the lower VHF aircraft type..... I guess is going to do me bugger all good at 225MHz and above

But thanks for the freq range. Searching now and setting up the band scaope.
