ETOPS is to do with Jet aircraft only - so the Q400 does not fall into the category of ETOPS.

Re: VB's New Embraer Jets
Looks like that SAW have won the contract to fly Perth - Cocos
So we can expect to see a SAW ERJ-190 sitting in perth in the coming months
Will be interesting times to see how SAW go on this run... interesting times ahead

Re: VB's New Embraer Jets
good luck to Sky Air World
Hope they do well on those runs. i also heard that they are going to start doing a run from Darwin to Bali. Looks as thou they are a growing company during these uncertain times especially in such a fickle industry.

Re: VB's New Embraer Jets
I can confirm that Cobham Aviation (Formerly known as National Jet) is continuing the CCK/XCH Flights for the moment.
And also Alliance do fly to XCH only, but as a seperate contract to the CCK/XCH Contract.
Cheers,
Numloxx

Was only a matter of time !!!
NEW AIRLINE SERVICE TO CHRISTMAS AND COCOS KEELING ISLANDS
23 December 2009
The Minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O’Connor, has announced a new service provider to conduct regular flights between Perth and Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands.
Virgin Blue will commence services from Thursday 1 April 2010 with twice weekly flights to Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island and an additional third weekly flight to Christmas Island only which will be reassessed after six months, subject to demand.
Virgin will be flying a modern Embraer E190 aircraft which will provide increased passenger and freight capacity. The contract will result in better passenger fares and direct and faster flights which will reduce the overall flying time to and from the mainland.
“I am pleased that Australia’s second largest airline will provide air services to these remote communities, and excited by the potential tourism benefits that this contract could bring to the Island’s economy,” Mr O’Connor said.
“The Australian Government will continue to underwrite these services to ensure that it meets its community service obligations by maintaining a link between the mainland and the Islands.”
Mr O’Connor thanked the existing provider Cobham Aviation for its service to the Islands over the past decade.

Faster and direct flights maybe, but the Em190 can't carry as much as the RJ70 and BAE146-300 that flies there currently. The holds of the 190 are tiny!orangepeel wrote:NEW AIRLINE SERVICE TO CHRISTMAS AND COCOS KEELING ISLANDS

Re: VB's New Embraer Jets
The Alliance and DJ flights to XCH only, are a seperate contract.
AFAIK there are 4 different contracts between CCK and XCH. Some to both Islands, others to just XCH.
AG Office is tendering the one ending in March, and DIMIA is tendering the one to XCH only, which we share on a regular basis with DJ and Alliance.

Any extra service will automatically increase freight and passenger capacity ..... i think that is what the reference is to.numloxx wrote:Faster and direct flights maybe, but the Em190 can't carry as much as the RJ70 and BAE146-300 that flies there currently.
