the aircraft is reportedly an RV-6, an experimental homebuild aircraft. our school owns an RV-6a (the tricycle wheel version)... fairly unstable aircraft, but there is a high possibility of a wing drop if it stalls, putting the aircraft into a spin.
not necicerally what happened, but could have something to do with it. ill keep an eye on the ATSB site, and post when a report is released

And this has what to do with the crash? I think you will find most aircraft once they drop a wing will enter into an incipient spin or spiral dive regardless of whether the aircraft is stable or not...

Cheers, CC
Spiral dives and Spins are very different, i could list all the characteristics of each, but i would burn out my fingers.
I was simply stating that this could have been the cause of the crash. in an unstable aircraft like an RV-6, spins are not very easy to recover from, especially if the wrong action is taken (eg: tries to recover from a spiral dive, rather than a spin, or vice versa)

Im aware of the difference between the two. I think it's best left to the experts to determine the cause don't you?
Just found out from Ch9 news, One of the pilots, Alan Hayes, was a Skippers Dash8 Pilot, who also owned a home built RV6 VH-LAR coloured purple and green. Deepest condolences to family and friends

Starter motor sheared off because there was no oil in it
no, the starter motor failed to dis engage when fuel was introduced, and the engine began to gain RPM, past the limit of the starter motor, eventually it sheared the shaft, during take off roll the shaft fell out into the engine, put a hole in oil lines, causing the engine oil leak and thus the warning on the ECIAS. thats what the QF LAME told me when i was on the ground yesterday.

I know who i would belive
Aviation sources told Fairfax the engine starter motor sheared off because no oil had been put into the motor after its overhaul.
People who think they know about aviation, should be left alone
