Wessex chopper sub rescue

saw a wessex chopper fly over me in Doubleview heading west and later on nine news shows a practice rescue from a submarine off the coast.

Also watched just after noon, a great Jet vapour trail from a 4 engine aircraft traveling from the city direction (ESE to WNW), lasted hours before upper winds blew it away.

someone in the other thread said it was from an Airbus A340-300 destined for Mauritius. i have never seen a contrail that large before!

But why would an air bus leave a trail that stopped and started like that.

Different patches of air having different temperatures make it start and stop.

and gives it a smoke like appearance??

And also being an air bus i was right underneath it just after it appeared and i didn't hear a thing if it was an air bus wouldn't it have made your standard air-a-plane noises??

It wasnt a Airbus 340, it was a Emirates Boeing 777 enroute to Dubai at 7000 ft, conformation from Perth Airport contact.
