This is a pic I got during the week showing the nav/comm gear on an aircraft I was a passenger in.



Any pilots should have no trouble working out exactly where I was and where I'd departed from!

Note also the COM2 tuned to 121.5 - the emergency beacon frequency, and the HF unit down the bottom tuned to 6565 which I actually think has been discontinued.

COM1 is tuned to 124.9. When it's time to change to 120.3 (the 'standby' frequency in blue) the pilot just pushes the button to the left with the up/down arrows on it and it swaps them over.

Ok - I am very very familiar with the Garmin layout - as that's what I use in the Diamond DA-20 Eclipse (Aircraft)

I bet your on the Polair62 - am I right?

PS - The transponder - second unit - Appears faulty or someone greyed out the transponder code - and the one on the bottom looks like a digital frequency, so Im pushing my thoughts here.... Its either the Police PC-12 - Polair 62..... am i getting warmer?

That second unit from the top is the autopilot (though it looks like a transponder) - it was displaying things like heading and altitude quite correctly and it was only when I reviewed the pics that I found the heiroglyphics - probably something to do with the LED display not in sync with the digital camera. The transponder was located to the right of these units and was an LCD display.

And no, it's not Polair 62. Same number of engines though!

Nothing that exciting, I'm afraid. It's a Cessna Grand Caravan. It had a s***load of avionics, though.

I read the post and thought to myself...that aint no helicopter. But then Dicko, Mark and Marsha dragged me away so anyway I get back here to play guess the cockpit and youve already given it away. So now lets play guess the aircraft.... I`m saying it is either LWA or MXD.

Albany to somewhere?

Ok this is what I'm getting

On 3rd display (big one) - the plane is about 17.3nautical miles from YABA (which is Albany)

As for the 4th display - Nearest Airports - the aircraft is in the vacinity of;

(YKNG) - Katanning
(YBUN) - Bunbury
(YMJM) - Manjimup

As per Com1 - thats tunned into the Bunbury Frequency as per the 4th display - YBUN = 273 degrees Magnetic - 126.700 - 58.0nautical miles to Runway - So im guessing flying from Albany passing through the above 3 waypoints???

Yep, flying from Albany to Perth. The Garmin tells you where you can go if you need to land in a hurry! YOSBU is an IFR waypoint between Perth and Albany, and we had 17.3 miles to go to reach it.

And yes, this Caravan definitely flies! not the fastest aircraft around but an economical way to get seven pax to Albany - cheaper than seven Skywest airfares and we can fly when we want.
