What is Polair 64 used for? I've only really seen it on Gavin's dump1090 instance flying around Perth.

POLAIR64 is a GippsAero GA8 Airvan used by the WA Police Force, registered as VH-WPF. It has a cargo pod fitted underneath which houses retractable sensor equipment.

From AviationWA, with photos near bottom of page:

Acquired new in July 2012 for $874,000 to replace a Cessna 182, POLAIR 64 was later modified to carry surveillance and communications equipment, including an advanced mapping system allowed real time footage to be overlayed with mapping data such as street names, assisting with accurately plotting offender and police movements; an infra-red and motion detection video camera turret (in the underfuselage fairing) to help detect vehicles and people. It flies at 6,000ft, covering larger surveillance areas and has an endurance of 3 hours but only costs 20% of the cost of a helicopter. Following the modifications, the Airvan became operational in October 2016 and the total cost of the plane and equipment was $3.2 million.

It appears on all ADS-B servers that don't censor their data. I use ADSB Exchange for an unfiltered feed.
