I am regular spotter at Perth got the DSLR for christmas and have still got some money left over and am now looking for a scanner all I want to do is listen to arriving and departing aircraft while spotting and the high flying aircraft over Perth. I dont really want to spend a lot because I am saving for a trip. I have looked at the UNIDEN 72XLT VHF/UHF Scanner and was wondering if this was a good choice for a beginner.
Many thanks

Re: whats the best scanner
Hi,
Most (if not all) cheap scanners these days include the air band. You don't need to spend a lot to hear it, so anything cheap is good. Uniden are amongst the easiest to use for beginners, something like an Icom or AOR may scare you off with it's whiz bang features. I have owned quite a few scanners from cheap Unidens to expensive Icoms and I've now gone back to using a Uniden, and it suits me perfectly. I listen to lots of different things, but certainly have no troubles with the air band.
Cheers

Re: whats the best scanner
most scanners will include air band, however there are air band specific scanners out there.
when purchasing it, ask if it can receive air band

Check this one out. It seems to be the best value for money at the moment.

Covers airband as well as a bunch of useful VHF and UHF frequencies for emergency services, commercial and amateur bands.

CC a good indicator if someone has read your pm is to go into your messages if there's an unread message in the outbox, they haven't read it. He may well have been a 1 post 2 visit wonder like many others I'm afraid.
