I've got a question, which hopefully someone can point me the right direction. What is the law around having yellow 'flashing' lights flashing while a vechile is moving?

I'll have to hunt down the document but from memory you have to be 'moving through a hazardous environment' at less than 20KM/h if you are displaying AMBER coloured lights.

Ahh here we go, there is a pdf from DPI also regarding this but its a bit ambiguous but here is the Road Traffic Act portion: (http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/wa/c ... /s193.html) http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/wa/c ... /s289.html

Noting:
(c) the use of a light displaying intermittent yellow flashes, upon —

(ii) a special purpose vehicle occupying a hazardous position on a road, while stationary or manoeuvring at a speed not exceeding 20 km/h;
And I swear that said Amber not yellow but obviously can't refute the facts, but amber/yellow same thing :wink:

Obviously your question of 'while moving' (faster than 20KM/h) would only apply to a pilot or escort vehicle, a vehicle or vehicle combination that exceeds the maximum height, width, length or mass limitations etc as stated in the link.

Vehicles registered as a farm fire fighting appliance are required to have a single amber flashing light (or words to that effect) when on the fire ground.

Shouldnt it be any vehicle in a dangerous situation, or moving 20kmph or less.

what about tow trucks approaching a TA ?
or as pointed out, a pilot vehicle.

I dont think vehicles on a fireground, or anyother off road area come into question
seeing as their not on road.

Farm fire fighting vehicles do not just travel on private property. During a fire they may travel on public roads to move between properties, between paddocks and to access water.
