8 major fires still burning. Countless others minor ones still happening every day.

Looking at the amount of donations and help got me thinking its a pity it takes such a tragedy for the community to really pull together and start helping each other out.

I watched a snippet of parliament on tv the other day and there was mention of possible pole fires as a cause to some of the fires. Did anyone see or here of such reports?

Having come back from Melbourne, we helped our family friends evac from the Kinglake-West/Wittlesea - the area burnt out is just amazing :(

Here are two links - the first one was recommended by a CFA firie, who we got talking to;

I agree 4353, I posted that just after I heard some commentator telling people that maintaining a body count was morbid and uneccessary.

208 now but VicPol believe the end is in sight.

Probably all know this by now, but two firefighters suffered minor injuries when their appliance was overrun. At least one appliance lost and one damaged in Dandenongs (ABC TV News)

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009 ... 499033.htm

They have to be getting tired by now. I'm really hoping for an early wet autumn.

Also toll now 210 after one patient passed away in hospital. :(

I was looking at the BOM radar this afternoon and some of the TV footage and I've never seen such good (or bad) plume development so quickly at conditions like today. Really looking forward to whatever information comes out of the Royal Commission.

The saga continues. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,25 ... 43,00.html

I draw your attention to this one line however :lol:
News.com.au wrote:Last night, members of the Smeaton CFA escaped uninjured when their tanker was engulfed in flamesy.
Apart from the seriousness of the appliance being engulfed I had to laugh at the childish ending...even if it was a typo. :P

No doubt everyone here will hear of this tomorrow.

Out of courtesy, I thought you should all get this heads up so you don't get suprised by it by workmates etc.

I've seen what can happen when emergency service personnel are accused of arson. At this stage the suspect still deserves the presumption of innocence until the Victorian investigators have done their jobs.
