What you are seeing there is the Delburn complex that burnt 2000? or so ha during the big heatwave a week ago. (Arson)

Many of the fires in NSW are declared State of Emergency under S44 of the Rural Fires Act. This allows extra resources and extra powers and I'm sure frees up the levels of red tape for help getting to those affected.

I'm sure Vic would have similar provisions by now.

thanks meg for starting this thread,first of all my heart felt wishes go out to all those people in victoria that have lost their loved ones,houses,possesions and pets in these tragic circumstances,to the cfa members and general public that have fought these fires you are all magnificant with the efforts you have put in yes im an ex victorian that lives in mt helena that used to be a cfa member,just breaks my heart seeing these images and stories comming through, i plead with all the people living in the perth hills take note that you are not exempt from fires like this given the right conditions on the right day the hills could suffer the same fate with it dry bushland and high population living up here.i just hope people start cleaning up their propeties and put in place a proper fire plan and listen to their local firies :cry:

At least the army are now involved for logistical & fuel support hopefully it will help.

Hopefully the weather report is right and it hopefully it works for them in there favour.

Victoria:

35 fatalaties :cry:
  • Commonwealth disaster plan activated
    DSE requesting help for fires ne of melbourne
    VIc ambulance very stretched and not enough resources
    40 specialist fire fighters inbound from Tasmania.
    70 from SA
    250 from NSW + SAR teams
    PM on ground assessing damage (hopefully this will free some stuff up quickly)
North Melbourne Fires now burnt 200,000+ ha (Kinglake, Marysville, Bruxton and Narbethong damaged, current ember attack on Glenburn and Taggerty)

Alpine Fires now burnt 22,000+ ha, wind change 1200 AEDT/1000 WDT from W to SW, now Beechworth and Dederang threatened.

Gippsland Fires (both suspected Arson :evil: ) Neerim Junction, Noojee, Carrajung, Won Wron, Woodside and Traralgon South under threat.


NSW:
  • New fires in Bega (150 ha) and Colo heights (lower blue mountains) All fires of concern in rugged country.
    Grave concern over 300ha Peats Ridge blaze with wind change expected.
    Person detained over Peats Ridge released without charge.
