Ahh I remember the old 11lb ANPRC-77 set that we used to used at cadets. They still use it I'm sure. Heavy radio, but great set and yes we had the flat "battlewhip" antenna's on goosenecks as well as a 6 foot I think straight whip or if you were camped up for a while then the Antenna Lightweight or dipole. Ahh the days of fun!

and if my memory serves me correctly 510 is Aquinas Cadet unit previously ACCU. Only annual camp I got to attend was 2002 with the parade at Northam army camp and my JNCO course at Leeuwin barracks in Freo.

510 is Merredin, or Wheetbelt Army Cadet Unit
511 is Busselton
509 i think is Aquinas

nope 509 is Lynwood...can't find Aquinas (looking on www.aac.adfc.gov.au)...my apologies for the insult anyway could have been worse Christ Church. They do exist I just can't remember their number...well they did exist unless they've closed down altogether.

I remember that now, we were at camp site 2 at bindoon, shared it with 504, Mandurah, 509 Lynwood, and 511 Bussellton

Ah the days of short showers after collecting hot water from the choffer, and hoisting it up in a a bag above your head, and the starnge feeling sitting on the long drop next to other people

And the only task for the week was to steel some one elses mascot, Busselton though i had it, and kidnaped me, carried me to their admin tent and interrigated me, we managed to get theirs, no one got ours hehe

Kinda going off topic here lol, maybe we can get this shifted to another thread, to talk about cadets, its funny i was the one that had the job of teaching RATEL (Radio Telephone Procdures)

haha yeah the old mascot's...ours only got stolen for a brief period then strapped to the front of a Landy 110 which then did a bit of bush bashing. Got reliberated though.

Yeah I was just thinking that we were going off topic a moment ago. On my last biv I was a Staff SGT, and the Quey but also got to play Zero Alpha, which was probably what got me into it all.

A yes I worked Zero Alpha a few times on exercises, the worst part of that job was trying to communicate with the sections, while keeping a written log of what was being said I was a Corporal, so I was leading sections most of the time.

Most of the NCO's each had a field of expertise, mine was Radio, so I had the task of teaching Radio, I could tell you the ANPRC 77 set from top to bottom, used to any way, and all the callsigns, Sunray, Sunray Minor.

We didn't have specialisations as such, there weren't enough of us. But RATEL was one of my favourite topics and yep I knew most of the correct callsigns too...my favourite was Playtime - Transport for those not in the know.
