Newb

Post by FishoStu »

Hi all,

Ive just joined up the forum after getting myself a new handheld radio.

Ive used cb's in the past over the years but nothing really regular etc.
I have one in my 4x4 but its not connected at present but that will change shortly.

Mostly bought my new handheld (UV5R) for comms when out fishing in my Kayak.

Still learning how to set it up & whats required etc.
Hoping to do the vhf course & get a license in the near future also.

Any other Perth people with some good channel frequencies or tips would be much appreciated.

At the moment Ive just been using UHF with whats on this page.....

Anyway wanted to say Hi, any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Stu...

I doubt there's any frequency you can legally use the UV5R on.

The UV5R is an amateur radio. Despite what the overseas internet suppliers say, it is illegal to use or possess without the relative amateur license. It is illegal to program them with the marine channels and the UHF CB channels as they are not type approved by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. This is the same with most countries. Amateur radios dont have to meet the tight specifications required by the ACMA.

I can't image anybody who would be legally allowed to own or use them in Australia...? Unless you can buy them locked to certain frequencies or bands?

True enough, but it is easy to relock the radios to the amateur bands with a software lock so they become compliant.
