Bottom line is it would be a static channel, to change the frequency Gavin would have to physically be in front of it to flip to the correct channel.

Otherwise, if in a scan type mode you would miss out a bit as well.

What about PCI scanner or radio. All software controlled. Can't your scanner be controlled by USB? I still think my system could work.... if we threw enough cash and geeks at it - no I'm not volunteering

There are online radios now which you can control yourself. Usually people have to spend their own money to put these things online though.. so the radios end up being a converted ex-commercial.
Setting up a WinRadio for remote control is easy, but who do you give control to?

I vote 644 WAERN, its a shame fesa dont use selcalls/tones like the Americans do to call different brigades/alarms.

on a side note is it possible to get mapping software to decode the data burst of gps info at the end of the transmission, so we can see where appliances are?

What frequencies can you get with sufficient "Interesting" traffic? - Just off the top of your head, I'm not asking you to sit by the scanner and listen to the results of a search

I know "Interesting" is different for everyone, but I don't think anyone would consider the continuous broadcast of weather conditions interesting in the circumstance.

I thought the train security might be interesting, but i think that radioreference.com's terms of service would preclude that.
